I don't know really what to say. I've had it since Gears of War had first came out. It was my baby. I had all the games in the world for it, too. And now this happens. I can sell some of my games - for what, 5 bucks each? I have a Call of Duty 5 game that's still in the plastic wrapping from Christmas, that I'd only be able to get 25 bucks for at Gamestop.

It was working all up until last night, I'm still dumbstruck. Was just playing Fable 2 and it was all fine. It had always made loud noises when it played that game, even months ago when it came out.

Every time I put in a disk - I'll go to "My Xbox" where I click to play the game. It'll say "Open Tray" as if it hasn't scanned that there's a disk in there. I'll open it up, and close it again with the game in. It'll say "Reading" for about 8 seconds and then go back to "Open Tray" like it doesn't even know the game's in there. It has done this for every one of my games, and my DVDs, most of which I've played at least once within the last week.

I completely disassembled it using instructions from google, using a pair of jewelry pliers with very thin clips to push in the little folds and whatnot that held the machine together. I split my thumb open as the faceplate came off. I opened up the compartment where the CD goes in, and wiped the lense/laser/whateveryoucallit with a Q-tip and some Rubbing alcohol. After putting it back together, it still doesn't work.

I don't know what to do. I only have a few games, half of which are classics that would only sell at Gamestop for 5 bucks. Out of all of them, only one is interested in any of my games. I have 65 bucks on an EBX/Gamestop card, and I need 200 for a new one. I don't want a used one because I'd much prefer to start over - perhaps it wouldn't make the loud sound while playing games like Fable and Dead Space (Which would be an absolute godsend.)

What should I do guys? Is there anything else I might be able to do to fix it? I don't have a Multimeter, so I can't do the Pot Tweak/trick. I've already tried cleaning the laser, I've dusted everything off. Everything about it works fine, I can even play Demos like Halo Wars and everything. The only problem is that it doesn't read the disk. I bought it around the time Gears of War 1 came out, so it's fairly old. Guess this was bound to happen some time.

Games I'm willing to sell:

Oblivion
GTA 4
Left 4 Dead
Call of Duty 5

Games I'm not:

Halo 3
Gears of War 2
Fable 2
Guitar Hero World Tour

What are my options, gentlemen. Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty 5 would sell for about 25 bucks each at Gamestop, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the replies, if there are any.

Try this site:
sellvideogames.com

I added all the games you're willing to sell in the cart and if you have the box and instructions for each, you can sell them for $72.72.

You can also try to replace the laser in the dvd drive if you feel up to it. Here is a replacement laser:
http://www.eXtreme-Mods.com/Samsung-Hitachi-HD-63-Laser-Lens-p/xb360-repair-lenssf-hd63.htm

I'm sure you can find a better deal if you look online though.

Here is a tutorial on taking apart the dvd drive:
http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/samsung-disassembly.htm

You will just need to put in the new laser instead of the old laser (you should be able to figure that out haha)

Good luck with everything!

P.S. You could also sell your 360 on ebay for a good price….just say everything works but it wont read games. People that repair 360's and resell them will pay a lot for that probably. This + selling your games should help you buy a new system.

apparently its made out of lucite and Swarovski crystals. my question is 1. where does she buy the materials? 2. how does she cut the material into perfect shape each time? 3. how does she get the crystals on? they dont look glued. visti for http://shop.kikikannibal.com/category.sc?categoryId=9 for examples.

kiki makes them herself.
she has them cut by a laser cutter.
she uses swavorski crystals and she has a special glue she uses.
if you're curious because you want to make one, please dont!
kiki's diamonds are one of a kind because they're made by her :)

Well. The piece of junk HP Photosmart camera I've had for some years now refuses to work anymore. I don't know why. I put fully charged batteries in, press the on button, it will extend the lense, and then shut off. I press the on button again, it will retract and extend the lense again, then shut off. Ugh. What a pain in the #@!#%^. I need to be able to take macro (…micro?) photos of the jewelry and sculpture I make. Does anyone know of an affordable (preferably under $100… the hp was 130.) compact camera that has a macro function that doesn't suck? I wish I could get a DSLR camera, but I'm just a measly poor little white girl from texas >:C
…Please don't copypaste walls of text to me like a robot. I asked a simple question, I want a simple answer. Cheap digital camera with macro function, PLZ.

Don't know what is wrong with your camera, but bad electrical contacts/batteries make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

The batteries mentioned below are new formula NiMH batteries that will hold charge for one year when not used. Also, 2000mAh batteries seem to have a longer life. Did not like them at first, but have 12 of these batteries that are over five years old and are still as good as new. Higher mAh batteries still work well in flashlights, but won't start my camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the last link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of casual use and haven't been recharged.

Click this link for complete instructions on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

Camera reports batteries low, but is it low charge or bad electrical contacts? Overcharging can ruin good batteries! The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between batteries and camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power. Bad electrical contacts can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but camera will indicate "low" if contacts are not really good. The LCD screen is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. Bad contacts make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the second link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

For expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder and … It's PINK, but it uses a $49.50 Series G Rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution …

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes … like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. You can view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera …

The source links show most of the cameras out there with prices and make digital cameras work better with help on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

I have raw abalone, and I am wondering if anyone out there knows how to safely cut it into different shapes for making jewelry. If you know of a website that talks about it specifically, that would be just as good! Thanks

You'd have to use a diamond saw with plenty of running water like they use to cut rocks and minerals. Eye protection and a mask that covers both nose and mouth are also required. Because shell is formed in layers it has a tendency to split, chip and fly apart. You'd need a fine saw blade. You should learn lapidary before working on shells.

I make jewelry and I've never know anyone who makes their own shell beads. I looked around the internet and could find no information.
