I'm looking to purchase resin molds for jewelry making online. I'm looking for heart molds to make pendants and cabochons. Please, if possible, leave a URL. Googling has gotten me nowhere :( I have tried local craft stores but unfortunately they don't have what I am looking for.

It sounds like an interesting hobby. Have you tried looking in your local craft shops? or pick up the yellow pages and make a few phone calls. Overstock.com or amazon.com might have what you want.

I'm interested in learning how to make jewelry, using metal mostly, and I've thought about taking a course so that I could become more proficient. I know that I could learn a lot of basic techniques from free instruction guides and jewelry making books, but I really wanted to take a course since I figured that would give me a broader range of instruction.

I looked around online and found GIA, but I DON'T have $15,000 to take a course, so then I found Penn Foster and Ashworth. My sister once took a course through Allied Schools, so I'm familiar with the concept of Distance Learning and she seemed pleased with them, so I thought I'd be willing to give a school like that a try, but I've noticed that there have been a lot of mixed reviews. It seems like it's sort of a hit or miss situation, especially depending on the course that people take.

Since this is a course that doesn't really transfer to a 'real world' situation (meaning I'm not planning on going to a job and saying 'here are my credentials'), this is more for my personal enrichment, I'm not really worried about whether or not I'll be able to get a job, I'm just wondering if anyone has taken the course and felt they learned anything, from either school, or if anyone can offer a better alternative.

I'm also planning on making Steampunk-type jewelry, which requires disassembling watches and then reassembling their parts, which is why I was thinking of taking this sort of a course, since the repair portion could come in handy.

ashworth is great school and it is accredited by the detc but for designing jewelry I would not go to any online school i think you have to be physically their to see how it is done

I would like to learn how to make acrylic jewelry, and I should have no problem learning to do so, however, the reason is so I can make necklaces like this: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_3&listing_id=22980222&ga_search_query=diamond&ga_search_type=category_tags_jewelry.necklace.plastic
Are there any websites that offer tutorials about how to make these kinds of shapes? I've checked some and they only offer acrylic beading tutorials. Thanks!

Not sure. Good luck with it though. Looks like fun!

I was wondering…you no those websites and catalogs that sell stores wholesale? For example: when a website makes jewelry, and they are selling 20 bracelets all together for real cheap-and they say it can be sold for resale…does that mean you can resell it wherever you want? Can you make your own website and sell this jewelry, if you bought it from this wholesale catalog?

Yes, you can resell it. You just shouldn't say you made it yourself. Before you do that, though, consider the cost of a website, the time needed to keep your website up to date, how you will collect payments, paying sales taxes and inventory taxes, keeping track of profits and losses for income taxes. That list will do for a start.

Good luck!

I make beaded jewelry and wanted to start selling some of my work. Would you prefer freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, glass beads, or…?? Also, would you wear beaded bracelets, necklaces, and/or earrings? Do you prefer certain colors? Just curious what type everyone likes the best.

wood and glass definitely. I like bright colours, like electric blue, orange, yellow, red, pink, purple, green and neon shades. I also like swarovski but I don't wear them often.

I need to make some jewelry, but I'm clueless where to find the materials and the tools.
I'm obviously not looking to kill an elephant. Let me clear this up: faux ivory.

And I'm not looking to be bashed by PETA followers. So Please, unless you can help me, don't answer.

cant you do a google search? I would think you need to contact a large warehouse where they have pieces for jewelry making or you can call up big fashion universities like FIT or Parsons and ask to speak to their jewelry department.

do sparkly things make you happy?

it's terrible .
if i'm in a store and i see a gleam of something..
i don't care if it's the jewelry counter or a glitter egg kit…
i have got to go see what's all sparkly.

i wonder if i shouldn't share those things with you,
but it's true.

what attracts you?

I do chrome for a living. You should see people's eyes light up when they see what we did to their old junk.

I have been looking at stores such as "Michaels" and other crafts stores and it does not seem that it would be terribly expensive. I could make a necklace for $15 -$25 dollars depending on the stones and detail work (after the enitial tools are purchased)
Am I accurate in my estimation of how much this would cost?
I'm making the jewelry as gifts for my bridesmaids, so I want it to be good.

you can probably get stuff at michaels for 25 bucks.
it really comes down to how nice the materials are, if you are gonna wear this jewerly alot that spend a bit more the quality is better
ive made jewerly from micheasl and spent a bit more than 25 and its turned out well.

good luck!
