Melt it. Use a candle and put the ends of the thread into the flame. Just be careful and don't burn your fingers.

A lighter works also, but isn't as safe.

If I use beads with thread hole 3mm…what size cord would I use and what is the best type. Leather, waxed…etc?

Here's some info about the types of cord used in beading:

For beads with a 3mm hole, there are several choices you could make, depending on how sharp the beads are. Make sure you don't use a cord that will fray easily if the beads have sharp edges. Choose leather, for example, instead.

If you have a Michael's Crafts, they have a lot.

Etsy.com is a good place for craftspeople to market and sell their wares. They do not get as much traffic as eBay, but the people who go there know quality when they see it and are willing to pay fairly for it.

I have tried consinment shops but they say they can't sell it for what I am asking. I also tried the flee market, I paid 30$ to be there and that is almost what I made back. My jewelry is priced from $5. to $45. I would greatly appreciate any advice out there.

Ebay is great, that is where I buy almost all of my jewelry.

if so what is it?

They are over-lapping crafts.

Some beading is jewelry making.

Many non-jewelry items are also beaded, often with the beads forming a protective layer or edging (purses, book-bindings, curtains & lampshades).

And there are many non-beaded forms of jewelry-making, including metal-smithing, ceramics, macramé, knit wire & chainmail.

I keep seeing a lot of good reviews for firemountain gems, but even using them, the price of a necklace would have to be 20-30 dollars, depending on which stones you use. Do people even want to spend that much on a necklace? How does one profit?

Stop thinnking price and start thinking value.

If the stones themselves have a value then you start at that price. A string of badly assembled ones will still theoretically sell for the market value of the stones but by designing unique pieces that start converstaions and enhance beauty you can add value to them and sell them for what they are now worth.

A Van Goch is only technically worth what any other spoiled bit of canvas is worth i.e. nothing but the value that it creates in an artistic way means that it is valued at millions.

You can only profit if the value that you add by buying, selecting, designing, setting and making available for purchase is sufficient to remunerate you for the time it takes. People will spend many thousands on the right necklace not just the right stones so $40 is easy to get, just don't try selling them to people without $40 to spend on a necklace.

I’m using wire.

For beginning wirework, check out “All Wired Up”, by Marc Lareau (Interweave Press.) It covers techniques and skills, with a delightful “attitude”.

I see on Interweave’s website that they have a new book “Wire Style”, by Denise Peck, which looks tempting.
