I make jewelry out of beads and things. A couple of people have bought them. How can I get more people to buy my things without spending money on a website creator?? I’m 13, so I can’t buy a ton of things.
Etsy or Ebay…lots of websites like that! ![]()
Just make sure to get your parents permission, and you might have to sign up under their name.
Good luck

I asked one of my classmates at college about her bracelet, wanting to know where she got it from.
I didn’t expect the answer lol, that it was made from the bones of her grandparents. She is from Haiti so I guess this may be a cultural thing.
What do you think of this?
Years ago, it was customary right here in America for mothers to preserve a child’s first lost baby tooth, and have it fitted in a little gold ring. While this and other pieces of jewelry made from human remains may seem "creepy," it really is a cultural thing, and a perfectly acceptable part of one’s heritage.
I personally wouldn’t wear such a bracelet or ring, but I’m not from Haiti, and this is not a part of my culture. I’m sure it’s a lovely bracelet, and wearing it may bring comfort, and a connection to her grandparents. Nothing wrong with that.

So, for a project, I’m making jewelry out of as many recyclable materials as possible. Problem is, I dont know what recyclable items would be good to make jewelry out of. (The jewelry would include, bracelets, necklaces, rings, NOT EARRINGS.) Does anyone have any ideas of recyclable items found around the house to make jewelry out of? THANKS IN ADVANCE!
Plastic butter lids can make stiff patterns for material cut-outs.
The pop top rings from pop cans can be woven together for a flexible bracelet, necklace or belt
Buttons glued on fabric or sewn together make interesting bracelets–many are beautiful. Also the older buttons make cool charms on bracelets.
Make dough out of old bread and glue and use as modeling clay and design your own beads, just remember to make holes in them before they dry for threading them They can then be painted and sealed.
Rolling up paper into beads and glue them as rolled can also make beads and there is already a hole through them.
Think about also makinp Pins as well as earrings, and hair decorations on hairpins, the backs for both clip and pierced are available in craft stores and a dab of E6000 will hold it in place. Pretty buttons make great original pins and earrings. Also consider making rings out of craft or copper wire and wire wrap your beads for funky original rings to match outfits and shoes.
What about your purse and embelishing it to match each wardrobe?
Be creative and think large and all manner of possiblilities open up.
Have fun

Recently I’ve started to make jewelry and want to start selling it. What is a reasonable markup? I’m going to try selling them on e-bay first to see if people like them.
My costs:
Total beads - $50.00
String - $4.00
filler beads - $10.00
Total costs - $64.00
$64.00 will make about 35 bracelets.
Do you think that $8.00 with $ 2.00 shipping is reasonable?
If I sold each bracelet at $8.00 x 35 = $280.00 (not including the shipping costs)
Which is a $216.00 profit.
Is that about normal? Am I selling them for too much? Too little?
Thanks.
Your prices sound very reasonable. But there’s one thing you did not include in your calculations - the time required to complete each bracelet. Your real profit would be what is left over after you deduct the cost of supplies and time. None of us who make jewelry can charge the way plumbers do - $80 an hour, or so - but do allow yourself at least minimum wage when you’re calculating costs. That way you won’t be working free - even for yourself.

Hello there,
I am not familiar with that supply house. I have done silver work for a few years and have bought from Rio Grande since the mid 70s. I compared your site to Rio Grande on a commonly used basic item to check the price. 2mm sterling beads. You use lots of them if you make ear rings, necklaces or do anything with liquid silver.
Rio Grande base price is $0.078
Jewelry Supply Co. base price is $0.098
I did not find Jewelry Supply Co. to be cheap. They do sell in small quantities. But if you are making jewelry to sell, you are buying in mid to large lots.
About the lead warnings. There are now laws requiring disclosure of lead content in jewelry. Also laws prohibiting the sales of lead content jewelry to children. Nearly all base metal findings have some lead in them. Use at your own risk. Frankly, I found that if your earrings rot the customers ears or your bracelets turn their wrist green, the customers do not come back (except to ask for their money back). I always stayed away from base metal findings. Silver, gold, gold rolled, and surgical steel cost more, but they are worth more. You get what you pay for. You are going to invest your time in your pieces of jewelry. You want those pieces to reflect yourartisticc skill. Using base metal findings I never thought made a good reflection on the artist. It said cheap.
I take it you like Swarvoski jewelry. There are other beads available without lead. You may want to consider using pearls or natural stone beads also. There is a lot to talk about in the way of findings. Your needs will vary with the designs you have in mind. Also, you need to give some thought to your tools. Really not enough room here to discuss all that.
If you wish to pick my brain, please feel free to email me through the link in my profile.
Later,
Hello again, I see someone answered while I was writing my answer. Allow me to comment on that answer. Buying jewelry at a thrift store is not a viable method of obtaining sufficient supplies to manufacture jewelry. I mentioned the lead disclaimer. Here is a link to more information on that subject. Go down to item 16 Lead Content.

About the jump rings. Those are wire circles. You simply bend one side of at the cut sideways to attach an item. Then bend it back in place. You do not bend it so that it distorts the circle shape. Also, buying jump rings is all right if you will not use many. If you plan to use a lot, you want to make them. Simple. In a minute or so, you can make a hundred of them.
