Archive for jewelry making bracelets

I’m starting jewlery making & I want to make something like this:
http://www.astarte-moon.co.uk/shop/images/jewellery/ Charm%20bracelet%20black%20cross.jpg

I basically want to make necklaces & bracelets using bottle caps as pendants & having loads of charms & beads added to it. :)

My question is what size chain would you reccomend using? I bought a 2×3mm & it was WAY too thin, I want something bigger & sturdier.

Would a 4mm jump ring be sturdy enough? Like would it at least hold one charm?

Also what’s the difference between closed & open jump rings?
I ordered 4mm opened jump rings. (I’m thinking it would be easier to work with) but how would I close it?

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That picture does not show

Cool:)

Chain I would suggest 4-6 mm depending on the look you want.

4mm jump rings in my past experience are not that strong, search on etsy.fom for strong jump rings. Closing a jump ring, the trick is to not pull the ends apart but twist them apart, I might make a video on this soon.

so i am doing a jewelry fair on December 3. I am making lots of pendants/earrings etc.
i want to make some wire bracelets as well but it is hard because i dont know the customers wrist sizes. So how should i make them so that they can be ajustable etc.

Thanks!

You can make all different sizes ranging from the smallest you know how to make to the largest. You can also make a poll asking all different sizes of people’s wrists and take the 3 most common sizes and make those!!! Hope this helps!!!:)

-delicate
nature-esque
-not huge and flashy
-silver,gold that’s toned down and not a bright cheap yellow color
-uses genuine gems, not lab created stuff.

I kinda like the style of some of Fossils stuff, but they don’t have much stuff that is over 100 dollars, nor stuff that is real genuine gemstones.

take a look at http://www.nancysnonsense.com/ for gemstone and quartz and pearl jewelry that is mostly silver or just the stones.

I want to start making jewelry to sell and raise money for a charity. I’ve messed around with it here and there in the past, known some people who are into it but now its really appealing to me and I want to start getting more serious about it. I’ve bought a little bit of supplies and made a couple things but I was wondering if I could get any tips or suggestions on making good, quality bracelets and necklaces. I was planning on sticking with wire and beads or hemp-like materials.
Any tips you could offer would be great, thanks

Jewelry is fun! It’s so instantly gratifying. I’d say, go to the library and get out LOTS of books, you will find great ideas and techniques. Walmart doesn’t seem like a jewelry place, but they have surprisingly beautiful and inspiring pieces for jewelry making. They’ve definitely improved that area. My advice would be to sketch out what you want to make before you do and make sure that everything is strong and something that you would want to wear. If you’re selling in person, don’t be afraid to go online and completely copy other people. If you ARE selling online, then you can take small ideas from pictures that are around the net. Note the techniques and how the pieces are closed..

Hope that helped some!

I’ve recently become really interested in making bracelets and necklaces and stuff to sell on Etsy or something. The plan was to use them to raise money for a charity I want to support but I don’t really know a whole lot about how I could effectively go about starting something like this. I definitely plan on taking it little at a time but I was wondering if I could get any advice on jewelry making, efficiently working Etsy or a blog or something, or being efficient with this whole project in general :]
Thanks!

You can learn how to make jewelries on youtube. There are countless of crafting experts on youtube that offers tips and are helpful in many ways. Good luck

Which jump rings are easier to work with?
How do you close an open jump ring?
Would you consider a 4mm jump ring a good size to work with if you’re making charm bracelets/necklaces?

I use closed ones, and yes i htink that 4mm is a suitable size, but it depends on the things you are hanging from it. You should consider using a stronger type if the charms are heavy.

I have been selling jewelry (necklaces and bracelets) online. I make all the products myself but with it I use the ribbon of a brand-name company (eg around the bracelets, etc). In the specification of the advertisement I specify over and over that this is a hand-made product - that the ribbon is authentic but that I make the bracelet myself. In the title of the ad I also say hand-made product using ___ ribbon. I have been selling them for quite some time and I never had any problem. I was just wondering if this is wrong? Could I register an idea like this or would that not be possible? I have been selling them only online but would I also be able to commercialize something like this??

THANKS!!

I think as long as you tell the type of ribbon you are using when selling on line, thats fine. But as for commercializing it I would have to say I doubt it. I mean if you got red ribbon at Hobby Lobby and made your products from that, it would be fine to register but if it is obviously a brand name, like it says, "joe boxer" on it or something then no.

So I’m a 13 year old girl, and I enjoy making hemp jewelry such as bracelets and necklaces. I think I’d like to start selling my hemp jewelry, just to earn some extra pocket money. How would I go about doing this, and how much should I price it? Thanks a bunch! =)

Online, check out etsy. A friend sells her beaded jewelry there. I typed "sell your own crafts" into the browser, and got etsy, and several sites that tell you how to sell crafts online.
Etsy has a scarab bead woven hemp bracelet with two beads on it for $8.50 plus shipping if that helps.

Church craft shows/bazaars, charity craft shows are good places. You pay for a table, and sell your craft.

Look online at jewelry similar to yours, and see what is being charged for it.
You could always sell to relatives and friends and neighbors. Make gifts to them of your work. they then become a walking advertisement for you work.

For bracelets, necklaces, etc would pewter be a good alternative for sterling silver?
Does it change colors or fade over time & is it a good quality metal?

Yes it is. The color change depends on the persons chemistry.
