Archive for jewelry making kits

My friend is 11 years old and she really wants to earn some money. There is no way she can earn money from her parents or relatives. She can’t buy and resell anything or buy jewelry making kits because she has no money to begin with.

Also, how can she start making money in a certain way? Take dog walking, for example, how would she get started? There is nowhere she can post flyers.
(Sorry for any terrible grammar or misspellings, I’m very tired right now.)

you don’t have to post posters. have you ever read the book lawn boy? its about a kid who earns millions of dollars just from mowing lawns and investing in some businesses. not saying you should mow lawns, but you might want to read it, really short don’t worry i don’t even like reading and i think it’s short. he started by just going house to house and offering his services, so just do that and you can get started.

I have selected my Angel Tree kid, and she likes jewelry making kits and arts and crafts items. What types of things are age-appropriate? (I don’t have kids, so I don’t know these things.) I’m guessing that she’s too old for crayons and safety scissors!

What about activity books, sticker books, or even coloring books? I want to get some general supplies like drawing paper and construction paper, too. Oh, and she likes scrapbooking stuff. Is a prefab kit made for kids good, or should I go to Hobby Lobby and get her some real stuff?

The last two years have been easy because I selected girls who were the same age as my little cousins, so I had a general idea of what they liked. But this year I’m a little lost. I don’t want to get things that are too young for her that will make her feel like a baby. On the other hand, I don’t want to spend a lot of money on "real" stuff that will be too old for her.

Thanks in advance for your help! Hopefully some parents or teachers of kids this age can help!

I wouldn’t get scrapbooking stuff for a child from an angel tree because her family may not not have the money for additional supplies or even for her to print out photos to complete the project.

9 is beyond sticker, activity and coloring books, she’s ready for the real stuff.

She’s at a good age for needlework like crochet, knitting, cross stitch, weaving, sewing or even latch hook. You could put together some supplies and some instructional books.

You could also put together art supplies along with some instructional books on drawing techniques and some sketch books.

Prefab kits are nice because everything is included, but they’re not always as good of a deal as getting the supplies separately. I saw a headband making kit recently for $20 and it contained about $5 worth of plain headbands and maybe $5 of ribbons. Jewelry making kits are usually a good deal but make sure to include a pair of needle nose pliers because most kits assume you have a pair and she may not.

I was looking to buy a jewellery making kit, but I want one that isn’t just plastic beads i want a sort of proffesional one but not to technical, like not a childrens play set, so could anyone tell me a good make, not to expensive as i just want to make bracelets and sell them on ebay and hopefully make a profit since im to young to get a proper job, thanks in advance:)

It’s good that you are looking for an outlet for your time that could produce some income. Since you did not give you age, I am going to assume you are from 10 to 14. And obviously, goal oriented.
1) remember you are competing with the import market on what you are doing. So your pieces need to be extremely creative and thoughtful.
2) check out your local specialty shop, that sell, accessories to see what they are selling and make notes about styles and retail prices. (don’t be obvious as the shop doesn’t not like people who are trying to copy their work) You are not looking to copy, but see what you are up against.
3) you will need some tools, round ended and square ended pliers.and cutters, stringing wire, elastic stringing material, A pair of crimp pliers are great, I have a set of pliers that are grooved and round that come in handy.
4) crimps in different sizes, fasteners (I do not like the magnetic ones as they come loose too easily). crab claws are good and I like the heart shaped crab claws; crimp covers are wonderful, wire protectors OK, but I don’t use them,
5) beads and beads and beads and more beads. I like, glass and gemstones.
6) I keep my beads on pullout draw tool cabinets, but medicine bottles will work.
7) a towel (or pillow case) to layout to work on Helps keep the beads from taking dive into the carpet.

To get started, check with local garage sales, you can find some great deals for jewelry that someone has gotten tired of and will let go for 10 cents to maybe a buck. Run them through the dishwasher before restringing. Watch eBay for great deals on beads WATCH CAREFULLY, for shipping cost. You may need you Mom’s or Dad’s help with this, as you will need to set up an account. I buy through eBay directly from China and often can get sterling silver ear wires for about one cent each, never more than 5 cents each.

Get yourself a small tablet and makes notes on everything you do including prices you see and where you saw them. Make notes on how you cut cords and how long your bracelets are so you can reduce any waste. You have that trial and error learning curve. Get some of your girl friends to help and it will be more fun.
Make up a display board and display your jewelry to show different designed you do, (take picture and make a file on your computer) Take your sales board to specialty shops and take orders, but be sure to call and Make an appointment with their buyer-don’t just walk in—unless you know them personally. One of my 10 year old students made $300 a week, selling her jewelry. She was fabulous.

the hot thing right now is feather jewelry, or hair and ears. you can check out my web site for some of my items.

Hope that get you food for thought.

I want to start doing some earrings and necklace for myself? I will buy a jewelry making kit but wondering how hard or easy it is?

You can start off with very easy techniques, then work up to harder ones if you want. But making bracelets and earrings by stringing beads on string or wire and then attaching a clasp or ear wires is very easy.

These are the the instructions my teacher gave me:
Based on the business plan you submitted in Unit One (U1A2) you need to conduct a demand survey. Set up a short (3 question) survey to help gauge the demand for your product in your market. You need to gather enough responses to make your survey valid (at least 20). Be sure that the responses you receive are coming from your target market (people that would be your customers).

Once you’ve gathered your data, make a graph that represents your results. Also provide a one paragraph analysis of your results, and how these results affect your business plan.

Here is my business plan:
Name: Bead’s Knees

Slogan: “For all your beading needs, we are the bee’s knees!”

Goods/Services: Providing a variety of beads, and other jewelry making supplies.

Market: The customers for this store could be a wide selection of people. From little old ladies to preteens.

Price Plan:

•Beads: depending on size. Large ones will sell for 3 for $5, Medium will sell for 3 for $1, and small ones will sell by whatever container they are in ranges from $3 to $10.
•Jewelry making kits: $10-$20
•Single sell beads: range anywhere to $20
•Wire/string: $6 for a roll
•Misc.: probably under $10

Location: If I were staying in Idaho with this business I would locate it somewhere close to a place that gets a lot of traffic. Or a place that people always go like a grocery store or something. If people see my store over and over they might get curious and come in. Or they will recommend it to a friend they know likes beading.

How in the world do I do this?? I have no idea what to ask!
I tried google, no success.

Wow that´s hard, I have no idea.

I’ve been scouring the web looking for men’s jewelry made from COAL… instead of diamonds.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

If not, does anyone know if there are any type of home jewelry making kits that I can learn to make my own?

I realize that coal is unstable, but if it were hardened or dipped in something to keep it strong, it would make an amazing one of a kind piece of art. Just think… in a million years, after my body is buried with the ring on my hand, it will harden into a diamond, there’s something romantic about that idea.

Coal is extremely brittle with lots of foliation. there it would be like wearing pencil lead. It would black marks ad dust all over. you would not be able to harden it enough to keep it from breaking through everyday use. Also to turn to diamond it has nothing do do with time but millions of tons of pressure pressure your intact body would never endure in one piece after you are dead. Cool idea but would just crumble. A better alternative may be Blake obsedian( natural glass). I have a tungsten ring I love. On the mhols hardness scale it is nearly as hard as diamond and can not be scratched but by diamond. Looks just as new as the day I got it. And a more manly color.

Over the summer, while all of my friends were at camp or on vacations, I was at home with nothing to do, so I found this jewelry making kit that I never used and started making jewelry.
Now, I have advanced a lot and have an etsy shop where I sell at least 20-45 dollars a day.
I do have friends, but a lot of times I just want to go home and work on my business instead of hanging out with them, but I don’t tell them that, I just say that I have something else going on.
So, my question is, it is weird for someone my age to be crafting? I never tell anybody except for my parents about my business because I am embarrassed or scared that they will think I am a weirdo or loser.
Any advice?
I DO hang out with my friends, but maybe only 1-2 times a week… so, I dont know…
Thanks everyone :)
no i started making earrings when i was 10 and im 12 now. i sell them in my friends spa for about 7 to 9 dollars and they sell better than the professional companies. i think it’s a great buisness for our age. woman go crazy over jewelry. and if you sell 20 dollars worth of jewelry a day, then thats 7,200 dollars a year! my mom doesn’t make that much haha. and it doesn’t matter about your friends. make time for everyone. you could really have a career at this :)

I plan on making my own designs. But, I bought a kit to see how to make a bracelet. Can I sell it or am I not allowed to? It’s a beautiful bracelet, I don’t mind keeping it.

At the bottom of the instruction it says "all rights reserved"

Yes you can. It says all rights reserved but that’s on selling their exact product, directions and all

There is a website called etsy.com you can sell it on.

Thank-you
In your opinion would you choose Victoria Secret Ultimate Make up Kit
or Tarte jewelry box?

This solely depends on your price range! If you are willing to pay $52 I would definitely go for it! Tarte is considered a more prestigious brand than Victoria Secret, and has better pigments, better quality, etc! Plus, all the eyeshadows and much from the Tarte palette would cost over $400!! Plus all the colors are very usable! I think they’re even better than the Dior Quads!:)

BTW: Sephora is having 20% off EVERYTHING online and shipping is free if the purchase is $50+.
Use:FF2010
It ends November 3rd (11/3)
