Archive for jewelry making necklaces

im 18, and i was wandering if wearing jewelry makes a girl look more cute and beautiful and attractive? and if so what kind of jewelry? like necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, and does the color of the jewelry make a difference?

Well It Depends , If A Girl Wears A lot Of Make Up As Well As The Jewelry It Makes The Girls Look a bit over the top, But Yes Jewelry does make girls attractive,it gives people a bit more confidence! It Surely Makes Me Feel That Way Anyway!! Just Dont wear to much make up with the outfit, The Colour Doest Usualyy Matter, but try to avoid bright coulours like yellow or orange on the jewelry peice, unless your outfit colour is like the jewlery ! Hope I Helped :))

I want to start making necklaces, but im very confused on how to make them with all the different tools, beads and fastenings. Does anyone know of any books or websites that would help? Or any other advice on how to make jewellery? Thanks.

Any craft shop worth it’s salt, should have "how to" books on sale with the supplies.

As you don’t seem to have a natural experimental artistic bent, then ask in the same craft shop if they are running any classes (as many shops do). You could also try the local library for craft groups [and books], or the local education authority, who may be running evening classes in art and jewellery design. There are also craftworker guilds in many rural areas as well as the Women’s Institutes.

As a last resort, you could stop someone in the street who has "homemade" jewellery and ask where they got it from and if they’d introduce you/teach you?

Most people are very flattered if someone admires their style or dress sense and are usually only too pleased to pass on some knowledge.

im wanting to make earrings, hair clips, necklaces, everything. It needs it be a clay that can hold its self together well. air dry or baking, it doesn’t matter.

There is a ceramic material that is as old as dirt itself, used by the Egyptians to make beads and inlaid pieces that bears their name. It’s called Egyptian Paste. A web search will turn up a recipe or possibly a source to purchase it premixed. If I am not mistaken it fires at low kiln temperatures but will require the use of a bead stand since the material is actually very close to being a glaze material and would ruin kiln shelves if fired on them. It is clay like so should be able to be shaped into forms other than beads. But it isn’t really used for objects that are larger than what you might find as jewelry. Other clays can be used as well. You will just have to work small and if glazed the same precautions against ruining kiln shelves will have to be taken.. And there are of course the various synthetic clay-like materials that are available.,sculpey,etc. Link about Egyptian Paste:

i am going to start making necklaces as a hobby (: i read that fimo clay is the best to make that type of pendant, is that true? is there anything else i can use? i read that another way to make jewelry like this:

http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/shrink_plastic_swallow_necklace

is to use shrink wrap. where do i buy that? is there an alternative to that?
thank you <3333

fimo, sculpy or primo are all good polymer clays you can use, but they break pretty easily. the other one isn’t shrink wrap, i’m not sure what they call it, but when i was a kid they were called shrinky dinks, and you bought a package of the stuff that you could draw on and then stick in the oven and they get all small and hard.

both of these options will work for what you want to do, but be warned, polymer clay and cooking plastic in your oven are both super toxic and gross. you don’t really want to be breathing that stuff in. if you insist on using them, use your toaster oven to cook them and do it outside.

another option that is similar to polymer clay but isn’t toxic is paper clay. it’s also not very durable, but it could work and it’s really porous so you can paint it with watercolors and it just soaks it right up.

you could also try carving them out of wood, all you need a few tools and some wood scraps which you could get for free pretty easily.

hope that helps, and have fun!

I’m looking for plain silver/gold plated necklaces for making my own jewellery. I’ve seen some 16" ones but I was hoping for some 18" ones.

I’ve found quite a few cute and quirky charms for them but if anyone knows where there are some more I’d be infinitely grateful :)

Thanks in advance.

Most major art stores have a great selection of jewelry making stuff bc its becoming so popular.

Im hoping to start making my own Jewellery and sell it on ebay, however there are sooooo many different tools…Can anyone tell me which tools I need to make necklaces and bracelets?

i have some pointed rounded pliers, they virtually do everything, twist bend and cut, bought them from a craft shop, saves on buying tons of tools
