I would like to start making glass pendant and scrabble tile jewelry but do not have any software on my computer to resize the photos. I would like to use my own photos. I don’t even know what size to make the images after they are resized. Any free online programs out there for this or any way to tell me what size the images should be on-screen so that when I print they will fit perfectly?
I will be using 1/2" round tiles, 7/8" square tiles, and 7/8" x 1 7/8" rectangle tiles. Thanks!

you can use GIMP ,its a free down load

My boyfriend of 2 years just brokeup with me. I’m reallyyy heartbroken over it and I want him back so bad but he won’t take me back. We brokeup because we argued alot. Tonight, he is dropping off my ring in my mail box (he works at a jewelry store so he fixes my broken jewelry). I don’t know if it would be a good idea to leave a homemade photo album in there of our relationship to hopefully win him back, or am i just going to waste my time by making one?
i made him the photo album because he is leaving for school at the end of august. i’m not making one specially for our breakup. its already made.

No, don’t bother. It won’t be worth it anyways.

I have a photo that I would like to use in a piece of jewellery. To make this though I need the image to be oval in shape (I want to cut an oval out of the picture, not alter it by turning the whole picture into an oval). I then need to make it so that it prints to specific dimensions (25mm x 18mm) to fit on the pendant.

Is this possible?
Any help would be reeeaaally appreciated!

Thanks in advance

The first thing you need to do is to have the correct ‘units’ set in your preferences. You are speaking of 25mm x 18mm.

If your ruler is not calibrated in millimeters, go to Edit > Preferences and select Units & Rulers. Select ‘mm’ in the Rulers dropdown in Units. Click ‘OK’.

With your image open in Photoshop, select the Elliptical Marquee tool from the toolbar.

If the Elliptical Tool options are not visible at the top, go to the Window menu and click ‘Options’.

In the Tool Options at the top, select ‘Fixed Size’ in the ‘Style’ dropdown.

Depending on how you want the oval oriented, set you Width and Height values to 25 and 18, or 18 and 25.

Click in the image and a sized marquee will display.

Use the Move tool to position it as required.

Press Ctrl + c, then Ctrl + n, name the new image, and press Ctrl + v.

Since you are going to cut the oval out, it does not matter whether you save it as a .gif or .jpeg.

Save the new image to file and print as necessary.

Please look at the photos on this site, they have a pure white background. If this is just photoshop, please let me know how to do this in such a precise way.
Thanks.

The article suggests using off camera flash to shoot through the sides & this is best, however, if you don’t have any flashes you can use continuous lights through the diffusion panels on the sides (or even daylight).

For example all those male models in cologne advertisements, or the female models in make up, jewelry ads. I heard it removes all wrinkles, acne, etc. And people say that HALF of them are not that good looking in real life. Hey I’m not gay, but I have to agree those Armani, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Hugo Boss, etc models are really handsome people. What do you think?

Well, I have photoshop installed on my computer and it doesn’t make ME any better looking.

But seriously now. You can look up those celebrities-without-make-up (and digital editing) pics and yes, you may see drastic changes in their skin and hair, etc. It’s not all digital though, make-up artists can do fabulous things, along with hair stylists’ and product and real physical things like that. But I think the bottom line is, yeah the models you see half of them probably aren’t AS good looking as what you see in magazines, but they are all attractive good-looking people. If they could make anybody look like anything, which they can, then anybody could be a model. Or, better yet, they can just digitally create something out of nothing. With modeling shots and the cover on magazines, the make everything they can work to their favor; make-up, lighting, perfectly fitting clothing, and yes, alot of it is digital. No one can or ever will acheive the perfection of what you see in magazines. But the models they start with are pretty much top notch in the real world.

to me they look a bit bland. how should i go about editting them in photoshop to make them pop and look enticing?

thankyou!

Darken the background by using the ‘Burn’ Tool. That way you can still see the background but the jewelery stands out.

Hi, I am looking for a DSLR and i’ve narrowed my search down to the Sony A100k and A200k. I make jewellery, shoot photos in low, soft light mostly. Although i’m interested in doing more outside macro photography too. So my question is, which to go for? Which one would give me the crispest close up photos to show my jewellery off to its best potential?
Thanks for any help! :D
Someone has mentioned any DSLR camera body would give you the right tools. And what really matters is what kind of lighting equipment you use, and what lens you use. I would like to point out the two cameras you have mentioned are both only available on the second hand market, and if you are going to buy second hand there are a number of better options.

Your 18-55mm kit lens that comes with with those kit packages are capable of around 1/3 maginfication. It should be fine for jewellery, but it’s not really up to proper macro work. A dedicated macro lens is not cheap, but it’s one of the most versatile lenses you could have in your camera bag. They’re usually quite fast, and at telephoto focal lengths they make good portrait lenses, and even good long lenses as well as giving you that close up capability. I recommend you have a look at the Sigma 105mm f2.8 or the Tamron 90mm f2.8.

Secondly lighting, for the photographer the colour cast can really spoil an image. You have to be careful to shoot in RAW and if using multiple light sources you should ensure that they are of the same colour temperature. You could improvise light or you could use what natural light is available, but whatever you choose you’ll need to make sure you match it up. For example if you need to use the flash with tungsten light you’ll need to use a CTO gel to correct the colour temp of the flash.

I am looking for a very basic and cheap program that will organize and keep track of my home based business. I make jewelry and I cannot find something on a basic level for inventory management.
All I need is to be able to itemize each piece with an item # and a photo of it. Does anyone know of any programs like this?

Many small and even larger business use Microsoft Office which is great for your everyday needs as well as your budgets to the Taxes if you like that then consider Open Office as it is the same as MS Office less the cost. Both aps cover Word Processing, Database, Spreadsheets, and Presentations.
