Archive for photo jewelry making

So I was thinking of getting this mini studio in a box because my mom does jewelry and I take photo’s.
But the first thought that comes through my mind is Can’t I make one of these for like under 20 bucks.
So I would like your thoughts.
If you have no clue what i’m talking about http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=16080560
I can get a costly one here. but i have like gift cards so it won’t cost me a thing…

You can make a light tent out of a cardboard box & tracing paper. Link here;

The kit you linked to has continuous (hot) lights. You could use desklamps (these can sometimes be difficult to colour balance) or natural daylight. If you have a camera that has a hotshoe, I’d recommend getting a manual speedlight (flash).

A good one is the Yongnuo 460-II for £41 on eBay. You can fire this optical via a flash on camera or better, you can buy a radio trigger for it (Yongnuo RF-602, £27 on eBay). This flash & trigger are very reliable - I use them for location & studio work with models.

Here’s a couple of things I’ve shot using a home made light tent as per above & external speedlights;

I was thinking of buying a jewelry box and and taking photos of me and my mother since I was born up up until now and making them small at a kiosk and then pasting them on the jewelry box and them putting lacquer over it so it would last a long time. I dont know what kind of lacquer to use or where to get it or if there is lacquer out there for something like that. Help! My step-dad is sending my pics and they will be here Tuesday. Help!

you need to go to a crafts store, like Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. They will have this type of lacquer, or know what a good substitute would be.

This is my site, I’m new and I don’t know how to edit my photos. I can’t seem to make them look good using picasa or any other program. But besides that, how do you like the jewelry itself? http://www.artfire.com/users/krissy992

your jewelry is pretty!
i would recommend asking a friend or someone who has a professional camera to take them, cause the photos are actually what sells an item .

I am making a bracelet that I’m putting pictures in and then covering with a dimensional glaze. What is the easiest software to use to resize photos specifically for this craft since I need them to fit to a specific size (inch)? Thanks!

Irfanview.com free, very small learning curve, download safely from the site, been around for years.

my boyfriend is moving to Queensland and we are breaking up. I want to get him something that will make him remember me, no photos. I was thinking a piece of jewellery or something. A reminder or something we used to joke about. I don’t want it to be to sappy. Any ideas?

I wouldn’t get him anything. He’ll have forgotten you by next week.

I want to double major in studio art and film at NYU. I’ve already submitted my portfolios and other required materials for entry, but NYU still puts academics into consideration in the process. Here is my academic background (my school operates on a trimester system, so if it seems like I’m taking so many classes at once, I’m not):

Freshman: Honors English I, Honors World History, Algebra I, Physical Science, French II, Intro to Theatre, Physical Education, Painting I, Drawing I, Photography I, Health, and ECA-A.

Sophomore: Honors English II, AP U.S. History, Geometry, Biology, French III, Acting, Individual Sports, Painting II, Digital Image Design I, Photography II, Drawing II, and ECA-B.

Junior: Honors English III/AP English Language, AP European History, Algebra II, Chemistry, French IV, Acting II, Foundations in Technical Theatre, Painting III, Digital Image Design II, Photography III, and Drawing III.

Senior: AP English Literature: Multicultural Literature, AP U.S. Government & Politics, Statistics, Environmental Science/Astronomy & Meteorology, AP Studio Art, Advanced Technical Theatre & Design, Digital Image Design III, Acting III, Jewelry Making & Metals, Design Foundations, Creative Writing, and College Prep Portfolio.

My unweighted GPA throughout highschool has been a 3.66 and my SAT scores was 2000 (670 writing, 670 critical reading, 620 mathematics). Part of Drama, Art, Improv, Photo, and Film clubs.

Yes. It impresses me. You have a ton of arts classes under your belt.
I wonder if your GPA is high enough to qualify for the program of interest, but if the work in your portfolio is great, then I don’t see why they would’t accept you. A lot of arts programs look more at your work and your portfolio then your grades. If you have talent, they should recognize that and will want you in their program.

Me and my sister started making some jewellery and clay charms (link to see them- http://www.flickr.com/photos/40008692@N03/ ). Theres some Twilight inspired ones and others, some charms are made with polymer clay. What do you think of them, are they good enough to sell? Also where could we sell them aside from E-bay?

i think they looked pretty good, maybe you should make some of the charms that are on bella’s braclet, like the wolf and the heart x and maybe sell them at other place’s as well as e-bay like your local newsagents (that’s what some one in my village did) x

I am starting a small jewelry business to make money on the side. I have posted pictures (sorry for poor quality) of a few completed pieces, but I am working on several more complex designs. These particular pieces are handmade using ceramic, glass, stainless steel, sterling silver, and nylon components.

1.) How much would you pay for these pieces? Just give a range.
2.) Do you have any suggestions for future designs? Colors, shapes, etc.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/39864676@N08/

Thank you all!
I have invested $5-$8 in each of the necklaces, which take 1-2 hours to make.

They’re durable and made of high quality materials–how could I modify the designs so that people are willing to pay more?

Wow those are impressive. Nice work.

1. It would definitly depend on the peice of jewelry but I don’t know somewhere from 10 dollars to 30 dollars would probably be a reasonable price for homeade jewelry.

2. Stay away from the bright pinks because your style definitly is not like that. Try to go for more light blues, greens, and purples. I also think it would be cool if your engraved sayings or words into parts of the bracelets in the future, people love when there is great meaning to a piece of jewelry. For example if you wrote something like HOPE or PEACE you know inpirational stuff like that. Oh, and definitly make the majority of them have lots of color. You should do some browns and blacks but try to stay away from darker colors and stay in the tuorquoise, blue, green range. I really liked the colors of the last three ones alot better then the first ones.

Hope I helped, your designs are beautiful keep up the good work.

How much is the string to make them (without the charm). Does the string come in a kit with directions on how to make or what? Thanks!

yeah. you can get like a pack of colored floss and they sometimes have directions. if not, you can find directions online. they’re pretty easy. a pack can range from maybe 5-10 dollars at most craft stores
