A dremel will be perfect….its a hand held tool especially for things like jewellery….ive got mine a pendant lead and a stand so i dont actually have to bear the whole weight of it when im doing really intricate work…you can pick one up at b&q, and its got to be dremel…you can pick up much cheaper hand held electrical tools, but in my experience they are a waste of money….good luck x

I make handmade jewelry - mostly beaded works (beadweaving with seed beads & crystals) which sometimes have sterling silver clasps.

I’d like to sell my jewelry but have a concern.

The thing is…..I smoke and am concerned of the jewelry smelling like smoke. (of course I don’t smell anything because I am a smoker)

Any tips on how to remove cigarrette smoke smell out of my jewelry? (keep in mind they are beads, crystals, nylon thread,, and sometimes sterling silver clasps)

You can cover your items with coffee in a paper lined container. Both will absorb the odors.

If you sell your items you will need new and uncontaminated packaging items because many buyers are allergic or offended by smoke odors. Also, many people, like myself cannot inhale many perfumes or other odors. So odor free is the way to go.

Also use a little windex on the silver to take the nicotine off. It won’t harm your thread or other beads.

I have some questions regarding the basic coverage and techniques of resin jewelry, I’m very much a newbie with resin. I’m planning to make some transparent/colored pendants and beads with it.

1) What are the basic and most essential supplies for making resin jewelry? (coloring dyes, driller, etc.) Where to buy them and what brands?
2) How do you make a mold to cast resin into?
3) How do I make the resin beads/pendants have a metallic faux surface?
4) Is it possible the resin beads/pendants have a crystallized/multi faceted gem-like texture? How is it done?
5) Can you paint on the surface of the resin beads/pendants? What paint should I use? (I’ve had an experience with painting polymer clay with acrylic but it came out having a dull rough texture.. Is it the same with resin?)

That’s all. You don’t have to answer all of those, if you have some knowledge to share specifically for one question, the contribution is still greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I use Ice Resin which is a non-toxic jewelers doming resin. It can be mixed in small quantities. I’ve only used commercial molds at this point. I’ve added color with acrylic paints and mica powders mixed into the resin. You can paint the surface or add papers then coat with resin for additional gloss. I’ve also used colored resin as a sort of poor man’s enamel for PMC projects. I buy Ice Resin at Abeille in Brookline. The product is a bit more expensive than other resins but it’s easy to use, non-toxic and doesn’t bubble. Hope this helps.

It truly inspired me to want to go
and a little profit also.

My problem is I have no idea where to
start, i dont know where to get the tools
the products to make them or even where
to get certain metals/wood/plastics to design
them and its kind of discouragiing

here is her jewelry site:

if there is someone out there that could help
i would really appreciate it

thanks in advance
-PeAcE♥
and theres no such thing
as bad advice ill take anything
thank u all for helping

Hey there,
I’m on the same boat! I’m 20 and I sell on Etsy. Here’s how I did it. Well to start off, get an idea of what type of jewelry you want to make. For example, do you want to make charm necklaces/jewelry, beaded jewelry, or eco-friendly jewelry? Once you figure that out, search online for any "bead stores" in your area. If you’re in the U.S., Michaels, Joanns, and Hobby Lobby all have a decent selection of beads and findings. If you’re overseas, you can search on Etsy.com for supplies. Just click on the drop down menu where it says "handmade" on etsy next to the search bar, change it to "supplies" and search for beads, charms, chains, or whatever. You’re going to also need some tools! Most jewelry-makers don’t go without a decent set of pliers. Personally, I think a set of round nose, flat nose, and cutting pliers are very important. Once you have the supplies, just search online for jewelry making tutorials. You can also buy a bead magazine/jewelry book. Hope this helps get you started!

The other day I bought some craft wire and was expecting it to be the same as my usual wire i.e very flexible, easy enough to bend when attahing the clasp for a bracelet/necklace etc. However this wire is very stiff and I am unsure what to do with it now. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could use it for as I cant use it for jewellery?

You might still be able to use it for jewelry, just in a different way. I have some stiffer wire I use for jewelry. It bends, but not easily. There are tricks to bending it. Email me with specifics if you want more help on that. Click on my avatar for an email link, and tell me what kind of wire it is, any names on the packaging, the material, the gauge, and any of that good stuff that you know. Then, I can tell you how to handle it.

Otherwise, if it really and truly won’t work for jewelry, have fun and get creative. A friend got some 9ga or 10ga copper wire and used it for ornamental plant stakes, for example. It was really too big for jewelry, but looks great in potted plants.
