When people make jewelry out of stones?
29 Nov 2008
Do they have to drill holes in them? Say you wanted to make a bracelet like this: http://mirror3.etsy.com/il_430xN.15312103.jpg
how would you?
Those red stones may also be made from polymer clay instead of being "real" stones. There are in fact many stones that can be made quite convincingly from polymer clay. In those cases, the holes could be made while the clay is raw, or after baking it to harden.
(Faux pearls can even be made from polymer clay, but these may well be real or cultured pearls, or just regular fake pearls purchased from a craft store or bead shop, etc…. those often come already with the holes).

2008 Nov 29 1If you find out what kind of beads they are, you can purchase the beads, as well as the chain, the clasp and the string from a website online. Just put "beads" in the search engine, and you should find websites. Also, Walmart has a section for beads and such, as well there are specialized stores for them. They already have the holes drilled in them when you purchase them.
Good luck!

2008 Nov 30 3That particular bracelet looks like it was made from coral beads and full drilled pearls or glass pearl beads. There are many semiprecious stone beads available, which saves the trouble and expense of drilling them yourself (special tools are required, and mistakes can cost you a bundle in materials). Alternatives to beads can include wire wrapped and stone setting, the latter of which is trickier, particularly if you elect to make your own settings.

2008 Nov 30 4i could be wrong, but those look like predrilled beads just for jewelry similar to these:

if you look close, you'll see the whole already in them.
etsy has some good supplies shops to, you should be able to find anything you need there, or your local michaels, joann's, acmoore etc
