Here is a good web page with information on how to get started in four different jewelry disciplines:

http://knol.google.com/k/how-to-get-started-making-jewelry-for-beginners#

The above web page has links to get additional information on each of the disciplines discussed. There are many other jewelry disciplines, but the above four are suitable for beginners.

Hey there,
I'm on the same boat! I'm 20 and I sell on Etsy. :) Here's how I did it. Well to start off, get an idea of what type of jewelry you want to make. For example, do you want to make charm necklaces/jewelry, beaded jewelry, or eco-friendly jewelry? Once you figure that out, search online for any "bead stores" in your area. If you're in the U.S., Michaels, Joanns, and Hobby Lobby all have a decent selection of beads and findings. If you're overseas, you can search on Etsy.com for supplies. Just click on the drop down menu where it says "handmade" on etsy next to the search bar, change it to "supplies" and search for beads, charms, chains, or whatever. You're going to also need some tools! Most jewelry-makers don't go without a decent set of pliers. Personally, I think a set of round nose, flat nose, and cutting pliers are very important. Once you have the supplies, just search online for jewelry making tutorials. You can also buy a bead magazine/jewelry book. Hope this helps get you started!
References :
I have my own jewelry business: http://tealightshoppe.etsy.com

what products that is a must for jewelry making would be...

-chain, in whatever color i like a rusty cold and sliver
-3 types of jewelry pliers, they look like this http://cdn.dickblick.com/items/606/18/60618-group-3ww-l.jpg
-little hooks
-beads
-thin pieces of metal (not sure what they're called)

this should start you off making some necklaces you would probably find these at your local bead store
References :
i know this sounds TOTALLY corny and lame, but a good place to start with making jewlery would be to go to craft stores and try to make something, then sell it to your friends? there's some things that you can do with little kid stuff that would look absolutely awesome! :)

good luck, and don't let the fact that you don't know where to start discourge you!
