I’m looking for plain silver/gold plated necklaces for making my own jewellery. I’ve seen some 16" ones but I was hoping for some 18" ones.
I’ve found quite a few cute and quirky charms for them but if anyone knows where there are some more I’d be infinitely grateful
Thanks in advance.
Most major art stores have a great selection of jewelry making stuff bc its becoming so popular.

Jewelry making? Curb Chains & Jump rings?
03 Dec 2011
I’m starting jewlery making & I want to make something like this:
http://www.astarte-moon.co.uk/shop/images/jewellery/ Charm%20bracelet%20black%20cross.jpg
I basically want to make necklaces & bracelets using bottle caps as pendants & having loads of charms & beads added to it.
My question is what size chain would you reccomend using? I bought a 2×3mm & it was WAY too thin, I want something bigger & sturdier.
Would a 4mm jump ring be sturdy enough? Like would it at least hold one charm?
Also what’s the difference between closed & open jump rings?
I ordered 4mm opened jump rings. (I’m thinking it would be easier to work with) but how would I close it?
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
That picture does not show
Cool:)
Chain I would suggest 4-6 mm depending on the look you want.
4mm jump rings in my past experience are not that strong, search on etsy.fom for strong jump rings. Closing a jump ring, the trick is to not pull the ends apart but twist them apart, I might make a video on this soon.

Anyone makes resin jewelry?

how do you paint in resin?
I don’t think I understand your question.
You want to use resin but don’t want to "embed" anything in it?
And you don’t want to have to print anything out, but you want a "pink zebra" design?
I guess you could just glue a fabric you’d found (cheetah or zebra fabric would be much easier than pink zebra**) to the back side of a pre-formed and cured/hardened piece of resin (or glass or plastic, or even a hardened blob of epoxy glue).
To attach the fabric to the resin, use E6000 or 2-part epoxy glue, or even a permanent white glue if strong enough.
Not sure what else to suggest since again not sure what you’re wanting.
** you could though dye a regular b&w zebra fabric pink, and the dye would "show" only in the white areas… or you could just paint (with acrylic paint, e.g.) or otherwise color in the white areas with pink

I have selected my Angel Tree kid, and she likes jewelry making kits and arts and crafts items. What types of things are age-appropriate? (I don’t have kids, so I don’t know these things.) I’m guessing that she’s too old for crayons and safety scissors!
What about activity books, sticker books, or even coloring books? I want to get some general supplies like drawing paper and construction paper, too. Oh, and she likes scrapbooking stuff. Is a prefab kit made for kids good, or should I go to Hobby Lobby and get her some real stuff?
The last two years have been easy because I selected girls who were the same age as my little cousins, so I had a general idea of what they liked. But this year I’m a little lost. I don’t want to get things that are too young for her that will make her feel like a baby. On the other hand, I don’t want to spend a lot of money on "real" stuff that will be too old for her.
Thanks in advance for your help! Hopefully some parents or teachers of kids this age can help!
I wouldn’t get scrapbooking stuff for a child from an angel tree because her family may not not have the money for additional supplies or even for her to print out photos to complete the project.
9 is beyond sticker, activity and coloring books, she’s ready for the real stuff.
She’s at a good age for needlework like crochet, knitting, cross stitch, weaving, sewing or even latch hook. You could put together some supplies and some instructional books.
You could also put together art supplies along with some instructional books on drawing techniques and some sketch books.
Prefab kits are nice because everything is included, but they’re not always as good of a deal as getting the supplies separately. I saw a headband making kit recently for $20 and it contained about $5 worth of plain headbands and maybe $5 of ribbons. Jewelry making kits are usually a good deal but make sure to include a pair of needle nose pliers because most kits assume you have a pair and she may not.

Where can I buy cheap jewelry making equipment?
24 Nov 2011
I am starting to make necklaces, keychains, earrings, rings and I was wondering where I can buy chains and stuff like that in bulk for cheap?
don’t know what you classify as cheap, but the last time I did anything jewelry wise I got all my supplies from Wal-Mart’s art and craft area. I spent less than $20 and managed to make 3 pair of earrings and a bracelet for the Mrs.

making bracelets without knowing the sizes?
24 Nov 2011
so i am doing a jewelry fair on December 3. I am making lots of pendants/earrings etc.
i want to make some wire bracelets as well but it is hard because i dont know the customers wrist sizes. So how should i make them so that they can be ajustable etc.
Thanks!
You can make all different sizes ranging from the smallest you know how to make to the largest. You can also make a poll asking all different sizes of people’s wrists and take the 3 most common sizes and make those!!! Hope this helps!!!:)

How to make a French Rope chain?
24 Nov 2011
I have a wire jewelry instruction book but the part on French rope chains is just awful at describing what to do. Ive looked on youtube and google but cannot find ANY other instructions. I would really prefer a video showing how but I will take ANYTHING at this point.
It’s kinda hard to explain…
I started making one but gave up. Maybe the photo will help?

(3rd picture from the bottom)
Maybe it’s more complicated than a French Rope though.
