Painting matte board for photo frame …?
10 Feb 2009
I wanted to paint the matte board that came with a photo frame jewelry box I have. It's black and I want it to make it white. It would cost me $40 for Hobby Lobby to make me a white one with as many photo holes that are in it. What is the best type of paint to use on matte board so it looks very smooth, like I really didn't paint the matte board?
Thanks!
I would use Acrylic Gesso (regular acrylic paint can be thick sometimes and require water mixed in, which will warp the board) Gesso will be your best bet I think (also it wont stick to the glass of the frame), but make sure you do thin layers, and allow it to dry in Between (its pretty quick to dry), otherwise the board will get soppy and warp (which is what you want to avoid) as far as brushing it on there.. you will want to use a larger brush(depending on the matt board, at least an 1.5 inches). All paint is going to have some sort of texture to it, but under the glass of the frame, if you paint it neatly, you shouldn't be able to tell.
